Book week is now over for another year and I'm feeling just a tiny bit tired. At our last school we always participated in book week but I had a feeling at this new school it was going to be a bit more of a big deal and from what I saw it certainly was. After being inspired by Bron I thought I would give sewing up some wings a go, every girl loves a set of wings. So I set about sewing up Miss 8 some wings on Sunday and many many hours later she had her very own set. She was so excited that last night she was still awake at 9 o'clock waiting for them to be finished, once I showed her the finished wings she was content to then fall asleep. We kept the rest of the costume simple with some white leggings and a white top (couldn't find black) and some spotty red shoes. So Miss 8 was the Very Hungry Caterpillar who turned into a beautiful butterfly and I am the Mum who is glad she loves handmade because that makes it all worth it.
Wings like that could make any girl fly!

ReplyDelete(I have wanted to make The Munchkin some of those for ages, one day...)
They are just beautiful Catherine, she would be the most beautiful butterfly in the world with these as her wings. Handmade items are the best & the most precious because they are made from the heart!:)
ReplyDeleteThose wings are divine! When your little people appreciate handmade it truly does make all the effort worthwhile..x
ReplyDeleteLOVE :)
ReplyDeleteI like that she waited up late for them...the excitment of it all!

WooHoo.....they are fantastic...and a piece of costume that she will cherish for a long time.....great job glad I could inspire. xxxx
ReplyDeleteThey are awesome! So awesome! I would want to try them on too. Did you? :) What a wonderful Mum you are! xx
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous! I really want to make some wings like this. I kind of want to have a halloween party just so I can make some. I am hoping someone I know throws a halloween party this year. Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteI pinned these wings on Pinterest a while ago to make for my little one (he loves butterflies and bumble bees!) but I haven't had the confidence to make them yet. Your Miss 8 must have been thrilled with them! xx
ReplyDeleteYour girls are so lucky that they have you to hand make things and to teach them how to do the same. I was just thinking the other day that I do all this craft work and yet have no one to share it with as my boys think it is so old fashioned. The butterfly wings are so pretty. Kudos to your daughter for the 40 hour famine. I totally shun technology when we travel and don't miss it at all. Unfortunately, my husband and oldest son aren't able to do the same. Have a great rest of the week. Tammy
ReplyDeleteWow, terrific wings, I would love to have a pair like this for myself!
ReplyDeleteSpectacular work, mumma. This will become a family heirloom no doubt. Seriously gorgeous, Catherine! You can feel the love that went into making those wings. No wonder you are tired :)
ReplyDeleteGood work Catherine. What a spectacular little butterfly...just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCatherine I love them. Boy oh boy you are clever. If I had those wings today, I would wrap myself up then spread my wings! hope you have a great weekend. Jane x
ReplyDeleteLovely! They are absolutely beautiful. Maybe I will have more energy and inclination next year to do something like this :) Book week tends to fill me with anxiety, but at the end of the day it is good fun.
ReplyDeleteThose wings are just sublime, if my daughter sees these she is going to want some, like now.
