This weekend I could feel Spring in the air, the sky vibrant blue and the temperature just perfect so I spent my days weeding and feeding, mulching and trimming. There is still much to do outside but if we have another weekend like we did this weekend you'll find me out there doing more of the same, getting dirty but feeling satisfied. We are already in the first week of August soon Winter will be long gone, I might miss it, just a little.
In our house this weekend there was the smell of incense in the house, Miss 8 bought with her pocket money.
Dancing at home, the little one and I having a groove while my big girl went and grooved with all of her friends at a school dance. I looked at her photo later, not quite believing how big my first born has become.
Some new hens brought home, they are slowly fitting in with our old hen who likes to let them know who's boss.
A curious looking little creature (Praying Mantis) I discovered and had to take a photo of except it wasn't quite as photogenic as I thought it might be, running away from me while I was trying to photograph it.
Look at your beautiful girl..it sure is nice to feel Spring in the air, it was so nice to be outside in the sunshine this weekend. x
ReplyDeletemine was lovely thanks, very springish, too. I am so envious of your lovely kitchen garden, we just started one, and we have a long way to go!! :)sarah
ReplyDeleteWasn't the weekend glorious! We were out in the garden too, digging up more carpet and it is no where near as gorgeous as yours appears to be. BTW made your carrot cake with regular carrots and it was delicious and just founds some purple carrots today to make the purple/green version. melx
ReplyDeleteWe had lovely weather here too and spent most of it in the garden. The veggie garden is slowly coming along. Love that your chickens have a boss amongst them! x
ReplyDeleteWe had a wonderful weekend in Sydney too. Out and about, lots of playing outdoors. Thoughts of beach swimming were not far from my mind. Have a super week Catherine. Love your chook.

ReplyDeleteAn absolutely stunning macro shot!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the mantis - I think it is photogenic - but I may just be a bit nervous!
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M
Love how you are getting ready for spring while I'm looking forward to fall.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great weekend. Love the little dance party you had at home while your older daughter was at the school dance. Too cute.
As for me, it was rainy here so I spent my weekend on the couch snuggling and napping with my two puppies. And crafting, of course... :)
I think that praying mantis shot is great! We finally had some lovely days here, where the temps stayed around the 80s, it was great to let the boy play outside all afternoon and not worry about him overheating.
ReplyDeleteI love the shot of the praying mantis looking back at you!
ReplyDeleteHard to believe it is winter where you are. Winter is our only growing season and lasts for just a very short time. Sure could do with some cooler temps right about now. Even with so much to keep me busy, I'm feeling a bit stir crazy with staying indoors all the time. I need to commune with nature on a daily basis and sometimes that's hard to do -- like when we have dust storms. My boys will soon be 17 and 14 and I do wonder where the time has gone. If my youngest saw that praying mantis, he would run screaming. Imagine a boy hating bugs. Have a terrific Tuesday! Tammy
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures and how lucky to be thinking spring! it will soon be fall and our tree's will be turning all the warm colors..red,orange, rust, yellow..oh my..I want spring..love the photo of the mantis, I kinda feel a litle afraid of them. How pretty your oldest is..and I see another young pretty girl a post before..Enjoy the week..
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful pic of your girl looking like her Mum! They really do grow before our eyes don't they? Your garden is looking so neat and lovely Catherine...what a joy to have the time to get into it on the weekend...i love this weather for gardening, i shall miss it too although i love Spring!Sounds like a wonderful weekend was had by all...thanks for sharing it with us x

ReplyDeleteI am drooling over your gorgeous garden, must get ours sorted soon!
What a wonderful weekend you had :)
Your photos are just getting better and better, Catherine. I can see how much you are enjoying taking them. Your garden looks beautiful. I must say that I love praying mantises, they are so graceful and beautiful, I always love admiring them.
ReplyDeleteIts a lovely feeling thinking spring is just around the corner, today checking my fruit trees the small buds are nearly ready to burst open.
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks tidy and ready for the new seasons plantings,is that special hose for your hoops?
It brings a lump to your throat watching daughters grow up and it seems they grow up so fast......
Enjoy your week.
I just adore that Praying Mantis and the shot of your beautiful girl. You can sense spring on the horizon, I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have lovely little backyard farm, hens clucking and fresh veggies growing....
ReplyDeleteI also spend some time in the garden. With spring just around the corner it's a great time of year to be outdoors.
I can definitely feel spring in the air too! Can't wait for the warmer months to come. Love that photo of the praying mantis, it's as if he was posing for you.
ReplyDeleteLook at your big girl - stunning! Our weekend was lovely - cold and a bit wet but we went for a picnic to Araleun Botanic Park with some friends and enjoyed being outdoors (despite the sprinkles of rain), making a fire and enjoying a yummy lunch. I wish I had more time to get out in our garden at the moment - time just doesn't seem to be there for anything other than cooking or washing lately! :)
ReplyDeleteCatherine Can I ask how you go with chooks and veggie patch sharing the same space. Do the chooks eat all the new seedlings and scratch around in the beds? Do you have to separate them, or the shade covers enough to keep them off? Thinking we will have to have bird/shade covers anyway as we also have loads of cockatoos and other birds that I am sure will wreak havoc given half a chance. Any advice appreciated. Your gardens look lovely and abundant.
