At My House

today the girls and I stayed at home and enjoyed the sun, it was a pupil free day for them and no car for me because it was getting fixed. So because there was no rush to hurry and get ready, we decided to enjoy breakfast on the deck with a bit of freshly juiced orange juice to use up some of the oranges in the fridge.

So what did you get up to today? Stop by Lou's if you want to see what's been happening 'At My House'.

At my house

today it was a quite day with my girls back at school. I did miss them but I kept busy and had my cute little puppy Molly at home to keep me company. Tomorrow she won't be home she has to go to the vet's for a little operation, I don't think she'll be very happy with me tomorrow night:(

At my house today the sun shone and the flowers are all in bloom in my garden so I thought I would show you what's growing in my garden at the moment.

Thanks for visiting. Stop by Lou's to see what else is happening 'At My House'.

At My House

today we were busy cooking in kitchen. It's our first day of school holidays today and I asked the girls to both choose a recipe for cooking today. It was a great choice to cook today because we spent the most part of the day at home because of the rain.

My Miss 6 chose Chocolate and orange cookie sandwiches and

my big girl chose Caramel Scrolls.

We all had a good time cooking, tasting and learning lots of maths. It was a really good opportunity to talk about topics like fractions, millilitres and grams in a practical way that helps to reinforce what they are learning in class and for just a bit of practice.

Thanks for stopping in to see what's been happening at my house today. If you want to see what else has been happening 'At My House' go and visit Lou's to find out.

At My House + a recipe

Today I attempted to make some more yogurt, my third try but for some reason it's just not working for me so no pictures to show. Maybe fourth time lucky tomorrow, cross fingers;)

I made a card and wrapped my Spring Washer Swap gift (inspired wrapping from here) so it's ready to go into the mail tomorrow,

and after reading this ladies blog and seeing a Butter Chicken slow cooker recipe served with naan bread I just knew I had to give it a try. So this is my first go at naan bread and was a favourite with everyone and it worked!

P.S. Here's the recipe for the Spelt Loaf I promised yesterday.

Spelt Loaf
3/4 cup warm milk
1 tablespoon caster sugar
7g sachet dried yeast
2 cups white spelt flour
2 cups wholemeal plain flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup warm milk
1/4 cup olive oil
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons honey
Extra flour for kneading
Melted butter, for greasing
Extra egg, lightly beaten

1. Put milk, sugar and yeast in a jug and whisk with a fork to combine. Stand jug in a warm place for 10 minutes or until bubbles form on the surface. Sift flours and salt into a large bowl. Make a well in the centre; add milk, oil, egg, honey and yeast mixture. Stir until well combined and a dough forms. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 10 minutes or until smooth. Put dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap and put in a warm place for 1 hour or until well risen.
2. Preheat oven to 200 degree celsius. Brush an oven tray with butter. Punch down dough, knead for 1-2 minutes or until smooth. Form into a 15 x 7 cm high round and put on prepared tray. Cover with plastic wrap and leave in a warm place for 45 minutes or until well risen. Remove wrap, brush loaf top with egg and bake for 25 - 30 minutes or until shiny brown and loaf wound hollow when tapped. Cool on a wire rack. Enjoy:)

At My House

yesterday I had the company of Miss 6. She had the start of a cold and just needed the day to rest at home. At the moment she is learning to read and is very keen to read as much as she can, so I captured a moment of her reading to herself.

For her birthday Miss 11 got a book of origami. I love origami but I'm really no good at following the instructions at all so when in doubt google! So here is our afternoon of creating.

At my house

there has been some preparations going on for the book week parade on Wednesday. Our theme this year is construction so in a house full of girls there are no plastic tools to be found so this afternoon, homemade cardboard ones have been made ready for Wednesday.

And Miss 10 has a music eisteddfod tomorrow so there is lots of flute practice going on

and
cake choosing, getting ready for Miss 10's birthday coming up next week. And my new natural food colouring arrived just in time for the birthday cakes.

At My House

Today I did a bit of cooking for the lunch boxes. Easy recipes today, the melt and mix type. A choc chip banana bread and some Anzac biscuits.

Choc chip banana bread
Ingredients
1 cup plain flour
3/4 cup self-raising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
2/3 cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed
2/3 cup milk chocolate chips
3 large ripe bananas

2 eggs, lightly whisked
100g unsalted butter, melted

1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Icing
1 cup icing sugar, sifted
1 1/2 tablespoons boiling water
1 teaspoon soft butter

Method
1. Preheat oven to moderate, 180 degrees celsius. Lightly grease a 10x20cm loaf pan and line base and 2 long sides with baking paper.
2. In a large bowl, sift flours, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and soda together. Stir sugar and choc bit through.
3. In a bowl, mash bananas with a fork. Stir in eggs, butter, milk and vanilla. Lightly fold into the dry ingredients, until combined.

4. Pour into pan. Bake for 50-55 minutes, until cooked when tested. Cover with foil for the last 10 minutes of baking if too brown. Cool in pan for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
5. Icing. In a small bowl, combine all ingredients together until smooth. Drizzle over loaf before slicing.

When the girls came home from school it time to chill and relax after a not so good day for them, so time for a bit of creative, painting.
