53/365 Handmade Beauty

I just recently finished my jar of moisturiser and so when I was close by my favourite shop Biome I stopped in to collect some supplies.  They also sell beautiful amber bottles.  I use mine to store my oil face cleanser.  I hope to make some of my own room spray next, now to buy more diy supplies.

Guest Post

One of my long time blog friends Meagan of This Whole Family put the call out for the gift of a blog post for the upcoming birth of her third child, giving her some time with her new baby and family.  It doesn't seem that long ago that she welcomed her beautiful daughter Indigo when I last did a post, time does fly.  If you pop over to Meagan's blog today you'll find a yummy recipe you might like to try.  Thank you Meagan for having me over at your beautiful space, may you enjoy this special time with your new little one and your family of five.

Snippets

I'm a little late this week with my snippets because it really was more of a week of just trying to make sense of things.  Miss 9's little budgie Sky passed away on Monday morning which was very sad.  We were prepared though because she had been having moments of seeming unwell and not just right so Tuesday night we had a service for her and buried her beside her brother Squawky.  I got news of my Dad feeling unwell again, something you just don't want to hear. I'm really trying not to think too hard about it because if I do I think I will end up not thinking of the now and that's what matters the most.  It's hard for me, I'm a thinker, a worrier by nature, I'm trying not to though. What I do know after my week is to always take good care of my health, to go and get that not so fun test to make sure that history doesn't repeat itself which I know won't happen (positive thinking always), that life is for living and for doing what you enjoy most and for being happy. So here are some of my bits of happy from last week and thank you for listening my dear friends.
1 & 2. Making a small batch of lip balm for Miss 13 who had run out of hers recently and was in need of something in this cool weather.  Not only is it all natural it's very yummy too.
3. I made this light box to try and take some jewellery photos for my brother in law.
4. The view from my bedroom window.
5. A bunch of flowers from my hubby to brighten up my day.

Joining in with the lovely Em this week.

DIY Beauty

At Christmas time I was lucky to be given some money which I happily spent on some books just for me, one of them was a book on organic body care recipes after spotting it on Soulemama's blog some time ago. It's not often that I go and get a facial but I really like to regularly treat myself at home by giving myself a white clay face mask or a scrub.  It had been a while since I had done anything other than my usual cleansing routine so I went looking for a facial scrub recipe that I could make with things I had at home in my kitchen.  This simple recipe only uses just two ingredients depending on your skin type. It does suggest though that if you do have acne or acne rosacea; broken capillaries or thread veins; sensitive and irritated skin; thin, mature or elderly skin; or windburned skin to avoid using this scrub as a more gentle scrub would be suitable.

2 teaspoons almond meal
purified water (for oily skin)
milk (for normal skin)
or cream (for dry skin)

Use: daily or as needed
Follow with: moisturiser
Prep Time: approximately 5 minutes
Blending Tools: small bowl and spoon
Store in:  do not store, mix as needed
Yield: 1 treatment

In a small bowl, combine the almond meal with enough water, milk or cream to form a spreadable paste.  Allow the mixture to thicken for 1 minute.

Using your fingers, spread onto moistened face and throat and gently massage for 1 minute.  Rinse.

It's fun doing a little diy beauty treatment sometimes even better when they are affordable and healthy too.  Give yourself a treat and give it a go, you deserve it.
