217-224/365 The week that was

I had all the thoughts about continuing my Well being series but I didn't quite get there.  I actually had a few that I wanted to share with you including the first two photos I took. Firstly my bed and a big bowl of delicious strawberries.  I think that they are both pretty self explanatory but I think they are a big factor in maintaining over all well being.  Sleep is something that I am constantly working on and I don't seem to be very disciplined with.  I really should be getting to sleep much earlier than the 11 pm that I do.  I don't know why I don't get to bed earlier, is it the rebellious me that sees it as a great chance to have some more me time, probably and it's also a bit of a bad habit.  The other big key to well being is also an abundance of fresh food.  Food that is as close to nature that means organic and try to eat a rainbow each day.  You will feel better for it and your body will love you for giving it life force.  The rest of the photos are how my days have looked over the past week.  I hope that you enjoy them and that you have all been keeping well.  Thank you all for stopping by and for those who take the time to comment.  I have been trying to reply to each comment so if you have any questions I am happy to answer them there if you like.

190-199/365 Long time no see

Sorry about the silence here on my space and on instagram.  The school holidays always seems to make me step away and be more present. So what has been happening around here?  I've been doing a little office yoga; treating myself to some flowers and admiring the flowers in the park when we stopped for lunch; making birthday cards and birthday cakes; frosting mornings and time with family celebrating; garden walks and beautiful new reading material and afternoons spent sitting in the sun to keep warm.  How have your holidays been?

How does your garden grow?

Mine grows with moss and weeds and snow peas!  This winter my garden has been growing slowly but quite well.  I'm not sure whether it was good timing, all the rain we had or all of the seaweed solution that I was diligent in using in the beginning, but so far most of the greens have been growing well.  Not all is well with the zucchini only the odd one is growing, the plants seem to be dying off a bit, a bad case of aphids I think.  The beans and snow peas are doing well despite my lax behaviour when it comes to building a trellis.  And I'm really looking forward to the weather warming up so we can harvest tomatoes, we've had lots of plants sprouting up all over the veggie patch so I'm hopeful as we love eating lots of salads. So at the moment we have growing
● tomatoes
● zucchini
● russian kale
● green mignonette
● cos
● sugar snap peas
● silverbeet
● beans
● broccoli
● celery
And just in case you think I was joking about the moss and weeds, I wasn't.  The moss is near the back of the house where it doesn't get much sun and the weeds, there are some serious weeds in some of the beds but I like to think that the keep the soil nice and moist, ready for me to get around to doing some more vegetable planting, soon....
Are you growing much in your garden this Winter?

Baking Day

Do you have days when you spend most of your time in the kitchen baking away to prepare for the week ahead?  Today I had one of those days with no plans and the girls happily playing it was a good chance to get some baking done. I really like trying simple new recipes and cooking for my family, I feel like I've achieved something productive,  I only wish I didn't have the clean up afterwards which can sometimes takes as long as the cooking.  After many dishes today I baked a couple of sweet and one savoury dish for the girls lunches.   So in their lunch boxes this week will be:

* Chocolate Biscuits with Chocolate Icing (sorry I can't find the link)

I found this site today when I goggled ideas for lunch boxes.  There are lots of simple and child friendly recipes there to fill their lunch boxes and yours too.

The sun seems to be disappearing here now and it's cooling down, Winter is on it's way and I love snuggling up. What do you love most about Winter?

Have a happy Monday

Winter Woolly

not of the jumper kind but of the drink kind.  Last night lying in bed I was flicking through cookbooks figuring out what to cook for the girls lunch box treats, when I came across this recipe perfect to give you a boost during the cold and flu season.  The temperature has dropped dramatically and I thought it wouldn't hurt to give it a try and the bonus was that it didn't use lots of expensive fruit.  Miss 7 enjoyed her juice as well as happily drinking Miss 11's and my hubby, well he drank it but felt it tasted more like carrots than anything else so maybe you could add another orange so the carrot flavour isn't so overpowering.

1 apple, peeled and cored
1 orange, peeled
2 carrots, peeled
¼ cup pumpkin, peeled

Put all the ingredients through a juicer.  Serve immediately. (Makes 2 cups)

Enjoy your Monday, I hope all of you had a beautiful Sunday.

I've been thinking with this cooler weather about I really want to start crocheting something yummy, and warm for us to sit under. After crocheting up this little baby blanket last year I haven't attempted to start something long term, I prefer quick crafts but love the reward of something that takes time, that you can be proud of all your work. I just don't know what to give a try, what do you think?
This pretty granny blanket,
or maybe this one.
I love the look of a granny stripe blanket and
this ripple blanket in one colour looks effective.

Have you started making things in preparation for the cooler months?  What do you love most about Winter?
