Our Creative Space

Today the big girl and I did some cooking in the kitchen.  I planned to make some jam drops and the little girl asked for some chocolate chip biscuits to take with her to school tomorrow for the end of term party.  So together we both did some baking and we were both happy with how they turned out, they got the taste test tick of approval:) I doubled the mixture which was the jam drops recipe but thought the mixture would be ok to add some chocolate chips and the mixture held together well. I added 1 cup of chocolate chips for our chocolate chip biscuits. This is the recipe we used today out of a Donna Hay magazine.

180 g soft butter
1 cup caster sugar
1 egg
2 cups sifted plain flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
your favourite jam

1. Turn the oven 180℃. Put the butter and sugar into the bowl of an electric mixer and beat until light and creamy.  Add the egg and beat well.  Add the flour and baking powder and mix until it turns into a dough.

2. Use your hands to roll tablespoonfuls of the dough into little balls.  Put on baking trays covered with baking paper.  Make sure you leave some space between each biscuit.  Flatten the balls a little bit.  Push a finger into the middle to make a hole.  Fill with jam.  Bake for 10 minutes or until golden.  Add more jam to the holes while the biscuits are hot. (I didn't bother to do this)  Cool on wire racks.  Makes approximately 30 biscuits.
And here is my effort when it comes to crocheting the baby beanie.  Still a little bit to go because I've put it in the procrastination pile. (lol)

  1. It looks like a lovely day. I unpicked the hat I was knitting and I have not had the motivation to start again, maybe I'll give it another go during the school holidays.

I have been trying to crochet a single crochet beanie for my boy but I can't get the gauge right I went ahead with my last attempt, though obviously too small and teddy has a new beanie now. :)

  7. Yum! I'm not normally a sweet biscuit person but I'm eating a lot of them lately - a good breast feeding energy booster!

The beanie is gorgeous. And handmade ones are hard to find - I had to return to the Mater hospital to buy some knitted ones for Simon because he is so small.
