Nature

The other day I was staring outside my kitchen window just like all the other days, doing another sink of dishes.  I had noticed there was something on the louvers, too high for me to clean and so I thought nothing of it again until one morning.  When I woke and went to the kitchen I opened the blinds only to discover the miracle of nature.  The 'something' on the louvers was a nest of praying mantises hatching before my eyes. I called the girls to come and look, to see them climbing out of their shell, to remember just how wonderful nature can be. By the end of the day they had all gone their own ways out into the big wide world just like my two will do one day. I'm so glad I didn't clean that nest away.
In all things of nature there is something of the marvellous.

  2. Oh wow, I've always been intrigued by praying mantis. I remember picking them up off our fence when I was a little girl, carrying them around :) What an amazing spot of luck you witnessed such an precious moment in nature and that your girls saw it too x

  5. What a beautiful picture capturing such an incredible moment, well done for even noticing. My kids went back to check the tree where we find Christmas beetles every year and found one guarding her eggs. On another branch the eggs had just hatched and imagine a scene like yours but instead masses of tiny jewel Christmas beetles. mel x

  10. How very cool! My 14 year old son would run screaming from the room. When we were in Sri Lanka one time, he wouldn't go to sleep until we were able to get the praying mantis out of his bedroom. :) Best wishes to you, Tammy
