Sunday, April 17

The girls were invited to our neighbours birthday party yesterday so last minute on Friday we headed to Spotlight to grab some beads and fabric.  I thought about what would a 10 year might like and I came up with 'the bag' again.  I know you've seen a few before and since they are pretty easy to make, I spent Friday night sewing a bag for her.  To go with the bag Miss 7 made her a bracelet and then I sewed her a headband using this tutorial.  I actually managed to make everything on time!  Do you always make handmade gifts to give or do you choose to give them just to close family and friends?  They are beautiful to get and always fun to make but handmade takes a while and often I just run out of time.  So do you have any quick handmade gift ideas, I would love any ideas:)  Keeping up with all the birthdays of friends and family as well as the girls school friends, honestly I'm finding it difficult at the moment.
It's my nephew's birthday party today so I'll show you tomorrow what I ended up making.  Enjoy your Sunday I hope it's a beautiful one.

  1. I love that apple card so much!
And I think that ten year olds are so hard and you did so well. I try to make all the gifts but sometimes it does get too much.
    have a great sunday.

  2. I do try to make gifts but dont always succeed. The bag and headband and bracelet are a great idea for a ten year old - she will love it! What a great looking card! x

  3. If I get a really good gift idea I tend to try to make a few in one go and allocate them to closer friends that I hope will appreciate homemade and not scoff at it. I usually get really good feedback. I think that for all the random school related invites I fall back on a trip to kmart because I just don't have the luxury of time. I love this bag and am thinking it would be a good idea for some of our girl gifts.

  4. What a gorgeous birthday gift. I like to give homemade when I can, but not when I feel that they would not appreciate it. Some people just don't get the homemade thing, do they? Which I think is sad. But then, I find that everybody appreciates baked goods :)

  5. Hi Catherine, love your card. I think a stash of head bands would be good to have on hand I don't make gift for kids I don't know well but might consider it for my Daughters best friends IYKWIM.

  6. I love your card! Cute, simple and just perfect.

I'm not as talented in the gift making department as you, so I don't often make gifts for people. The one thing I have learnt with card making though is that once you start you feel you have to "make" a card for everyone. The thought of giving them something store bought seems like a bit of an insult. But really, store bought is ok. It truly is the thought that counts and sometimes we all need a break!

  7. What great gifts for a girl that age - love the headband! That card is gorgeous - you should open an Etsy shop!! I usually save handmade gifts for family members and close friends who I know will appreciate the time and love that goes into their making :) Have a lovely start to your week Catherine xx
