Hope Softies

A couple of handmade bunny softies on there way to the lovely Steph to find a new home where they will get lots of cuddles.  I found the pattern here if you are interested.

Wow what a week!  For many, the weeks ahead will be difficult ones. We were lucky, it was scary seeing a river flowing at such a fast rate, hoping that it didn't rise anymore to spare people of its destruction but that didn't happen.

I still can't quite believe that this has happened but when you see first hand it's heartbreaking.  Today I visited a street near to my daughter's school and the mess was so sad to see. I picked a house and helped, it is only a small amount of what will need to be done but was greatly appreciated and the people were in  such good spirits.  For those who cannot lend a hand with the clean up a donation is greatly appreciated here at the Premier's Relief Fund. 

 

Steph is also organising a softie drive called Hope Softie for those little ones who need something a little special to help them at this difficult time, if you can sew this is a great cause.

Thank you to everyone who has supported in anyway to help those who have been affected by this disaster, Australians are such generous people and I am so proud to be one.

At the moment I am sitting inside the house listening to the rain that just won't seem to stop.  I am ok, feeling sad for those who have been left without a home and at the same time scared for myself hoping that there is an end to the rain soon.  Our home is high but still near a river that runs through our small city which I can see from our home.  I rang my neighbour who was here in the 74 floods and she said they were fine so I am hoping that the end of the rain is coming near.  We are staying home again today because we are safest here keeping busy watching movies and crafting to try and keep my mind off the rain.

Enough about that for now.  Last year I was lucky enough to become an aunty twice, once to my brother's new son and to my brother in law who had a daughter at the end of the year.  As a nice memento I made them this hand and foot print as a Christmas present.  I really love the gold castings of hand and feet you see but as they are expensive I thought this would be a good way to remember when she was small.  I've made a few of these, one for each of my girls and at a fraction of the price are a nice reminder of when they were small.

Still on the subject of babies a friend of mine is due to give birth any day soon so with all this rain around and the girls on holiday I have been very busy crafting up a few gifts for her.  She is expecting a girl so I was able to choose the colours more easily and get to work.  I made a freckled blanket out of the new Sew La Tea Do book, 

a small embroidery hoop to hang up in the baby's room (she loves elephants), 

a crocheted wash cloth and I used some scrap fabric I won in blog giveaway to embellish this organic onesie from Target.

I hope everyone is staying dry and safe if you are in Queensland. For those in WA I hope that some rain where it is needed comes your way.
