I really wanted to have an advent count down calendar for the girls this year. When I was younger we used to have advent calendars with pictures inside. I remember having it on the inside of my wardrobe and looking forward to opening each window until we got to the last, it always seemed to be the most special. I've searched for these calendars and haven't found them so this year, although 3 days late, I made one. So after lots of googling I came up with a simple paper calendar using recycled envelopes cut to size, some stamps and ribbon. Each day has a lolly in there for the girls and an activity that all of us can be involved in.
For our first day we enjoyed movies and homemade popcorn and today was making Christmas cards for their friends at school. My Miss 11 has been looking forward to the opening of the envelope to see what we are doing each day which I'm really enjoying.
Are you enjoying your Christmas countdown? Do you have any traditions that you enjoy doing leading up to Christmas, I would love to hear:)
this is really sweet Catherine...creating special traditions. enjoy!

ReplyDeletethey look gorgeous! I really like the idea of a list of fun things to do each day leading up to christmas, will have to do something like this next year!
ReplyDeleteCatherine, this is fantastic. It looks great and the 'activities' rather than just a sweet or toy is a brilliant idea. Thanks for yet another idea to try. x
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful, Catherine. So much better than chocolate advent calendars!
ReplyDeleteCatherine, this is without a doubt the most fabulous advent calendar I have ever seen! I LOVE that you have included an activity that you can all do together as part of each day...LOVE it!! Hope you have a wonderful week lovely ~ Txx

This is fantastic Catherine - I love the idea of an activity being inside each envelope. Grace is still a bit little for Advent calendars but I'd love to do something like you've done when she gets a bit older.
ReplyDeleteThat sound like a great way of counting down and having fun!I spot that I have the same tape too:)
ReplyDeletei am loving your advent ideas...i am taking notes.
ReplyDeleteOh what a FANTASTIC idea!! I'm definitely going to copy that for next year!! My girls finish school at the end of Nov, so we have the whole of Dec at home! Activities would be a perfect thing to uncover each day! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteA girlfriend and I were talking about advent calendars last month. She was trying to explain to her children the idea of hanging out each day waiting to see what the picture was and they found it very hard to understand so much excitement over a simple picture, no chocolate, no present, just a picture. Do you remember how some of them were never quite lined up in the middle so you lost some of the picture?
ReplyDeleteI like that you put activities in each envelope. Great idea. It also looks great to have the advent on the window! I also like the tags you make. They are pretty.
