Thinking

Another crochet shopping bag finished today

It was her first full day of school today, yesterday was an orientation day.  She's in year 3 but as I left  her in her new classroom, her new school, as I walked away tears welled in my eyes.  It doesn't seem to matter how old my girls are I really find it hard to say goodbye to them, leave them to settle in their new surroundings.  I thought about her all day, hoping that she found someone kind to befriend her.  At the end of the day when I asked her she said she ate lunch by herself, oh how I felt so sad for her.  Her sister and her friend stopped by to say hello, it was nice to know she was thinking of her too. So tonight I wrote a little note in her school diary for her teacher, just to let her know.  I do hope that she finds a nice girl who will be her best friend.   I'm a bit of a worrier, I probably worry too much, over think things and today is only her first day these things take time.  I do hope that tomorrow though brings me a happy little girl eager to return to school to play with her new friends.

Thanks for listening

  2. Oh Catherine, my eyes have all welled up reading about you walking away this morning all teary :( I'm going to be shocking when Grace starts kindy! Your poor little possum, it's so hard on the first day at a new school. As a teacher, I always felt for new ones in my class. It always takes time for them to find their place but you'll see, eventually your little one will have a nice group of friends and feel more settled. Take care Mama, I'm a worrier too so knwo exactly how you must be feeling tonight. Big hugs xx

  3. I too hope she settles in quickly and makes friends really soon too...
It is heart breaking though as a mum when you know your kids are feeling a little sad...

I am sure she will be fine though xo

  6. Sending you big hugs Catherine.
It's so hard leaving them and as parents we will always worry but I have no doubt that she will have lots of friends as the year continues. Our two return week after next and I am so not ready for it.

  7. oh Catherine, a little tear for you from me. Isn't motherhood the most rewarding, yet emotional journey. I hope today will be a good day for her, and you. the crochet bag is perfect. Jane x Hope you are keeping your feet dry in this torrential rainy weather!!!

  8. It's hard because you can't do anything to help her. You have to walk away and trust that over the coming day she settles and meets some nice girls. At her age I hope she will make friends easily. I bet a week from now she will be telling you all about her new friends!

  9. I found out yesterday that there is a thing that makes Mum's cry when they have to leave their kids and I can't say that I can explain it at all. It just is. A good friend will come, like you say it takes time. And although I've only met you and your daughters once I sense they have the ability to see a true friend when they meet one.

  10. I remember that feeling so well...it's so hard not to be able to 'fix it' all for them isn't it? She will settle in i am sure, give it a little time...am sure the teachers will help a little too.
Good luck and many hugs to you, it's a tough one!!xx

  11. I'm sure there were other girls on their own as well, it will just take them a few days to find their feet. It is hard when they leave all their friends behind. Make sure you let us know how she gets on.

PS loving that pyrex and milk glass xx

  12. Ouch. I'm hoping she makes lots of besties too. Eating lunch on your own isn't much fun when you're a kid... these days I long for it... but I'm old!
Love love love that crochet bag. Gorgeous. Such a delightful shade of yellow too!

  13. Oh Catherine, it is so heartbreaking to hear that she had such a tough start. I am sure she will find a great group to join in with. Usually schools are aware of new children and ask another student to show new ones around.

Hope things pick up for her next week.
    Cheers,Deb

  16. Oh, Catherine - this would make me sad too.
As Ashley said, it will be healed in time and hopefully a lovely little friend will pop up. You bake pretty amazing things - maybe you could pack extra when she does find someone she wants to be friends with. Your cooking would win me over any day :) Seriously though, hope it all works out xxx

  17. I read on someone's blog sometime ago that she had made a little heart, or flower, or something, for her little girl to keep in her pocket and squeeze when she felt lonely: she would then feel her mum's love and less alone.
