A Sunny Saturday!

How was your Saturday? It was early start to the day for me with Molly waking us at about 6am but she is settling in well with all of us and being loved a lot by the girls:) It's funny I'm talking like she's a baby, but I need to keep a close eye on her so she doesn't get into too much mischief just like a baby and teach her to toilet train. She's keeping me on my toes that's for sure (lol).

After our holiday to Tasmania I haven't had a chance to get back into my vege patch and it was not looking very healthy so today we headed to Bunnings to stock up on some seed raising mix, some potting mix, some flower seedlings for the girls, and some organic slow release fertiliser. I was really surprised with how much organic compost they sold including mushroom, sheep and cow which is good to remember for planting next time. My mission today was to plant some seedlings before the end of Autumn so we can have some fresh veges to eat. I was reading Little Eco Footprints a couple of months ago and saw the use of old toilet rolls to propagate seedlings and after my low success rate when I put them directly in the garden I thought I would give it a go. So after sewing the seeds I put them in the boxes from Bunnings and covered them in wire securing with some twine from extra security against the crows. I had another box so I put seed raising mix directly into the box and did the same. Hopefully this will stop the crows from eating the seedlings! I still have some flowers to plant for the girls and we are off to some local flea markets tomorrow and hope to buy a couple more chickens to add to our hen house.

I hope you have a wonderful Sunday! What have you got planned?

Smiles Catherine xo

Hi Catherine, sounds like a super productive Saturday. I really like the idea of using the toilet rolls as seedling tubes! I am going to try that for sure. I am also very jealous about the chickens... I am desperate for some, but I don't have the room at this place :(
I hope you had a great Sunday at the markets, I spent it in the garden.

  6. I spent my weekend in the garden too. Here's hoping for a modest Autumn harvest! Love the idea of toilet rolls, I had egg cartons in mind to do something similar.

  7. I love the seedling tray idea with the toilet rolls. Will have to remember that one. I planted a few more herbs over the weekend. My vegie patch plans have yet to materialise but hearing about you tending to your garden has me even more eager to get started on ours :) Have a wonderful week Catherine xx
