My Creative Space

In my space today there's been a bit of work happening for my little Miss 7's birthday party with friends.  Pass the parcel is a favourite party game and with all the guests being girls I decided to make some hair accessories as the prizes.  They were quick and easy and inexpensive to make which is always good when you're hosting a children's party. Can I ask whether you have any other good party present ideas?  I find these days children expect to get a prize when they play a game.  Do you give them all a prize or just the winner? I'd love to know what you think:)
I have long admired fabric bunting and haven't made any so I thought I would give it a try and make some scallop bunting and the bonus is after the party she can have it hanging up in her room looking pretty.
To see what everyone else has been creating stop by this lovely space to check everything out.

  2. Wow, it looks like the little girls at your daughter's birthday party are going to be spoilt. Personally, I do give a small prize to every child as I don't like to think of anyone missing out. However, i'm sure that there is an equal argument for teaching children about luck and to not be a sore loser, so to speak. Another nice idea for little girl presents would be beaded necklaces, i'm sure your daughter could also help make something like this. Freddo frogs and the like are alternative cheap and easy ideas.

  5. Your hair ties are a great prize idea - I think it's nice to try and 'rig' things so everyone ends up with a prize of some sort. I guess it's important for little ones to realise they can't always win but I'm sure there are enough opportunities in life for them to learn this besides at birthday parties x

  8. I think hair accessories are a very good idea for girls.
Last year for Audrey 8 th Birthday I sew a little apron for each girl (only 4 or 5), add few cupcakes baking accessories and that was what they got at the end of the party instead of lollies. We baked some cupcakes together for the party but no game.I heard from one of the mum that they used their equipment home after :)

  10. The hair accessories are gorgeous - and how lovely to have hand made goodies instead of the usual plastic junk! I gave sheets of stickers which went down well (but they were 4...). I've just been reading your earlier posts too - well done for making those beautiful gifts. You've been so busy! Happy birthday to your gorgeous girl!

  13. i love the hair accessories and I tend to give each person a little something when playing any games... I did a craft party for one of my daughters and made some aprons for the girls to wear and then take home. I have also brought t-shirts and transferred the same pattern onto the them so they could all be the same (you know what little girls are like!)
    Good luck

  14. Oh they are lovely hairbands and a great idea. I put prizes in a bucket with shredded newspaper so the child picks the prize out if they win, like a lucky dip. I do pass the parcel with only a prize in the middle, not on every layer but everyone gets a nice party bag so no-one goes home empty-handed.

  15. Gorgeous hair accessories. It's such a hard call with the party prize thing, I'm just starting out in this area. It's nice for everyone to get a little something, but still as everyone else has said, we aren't all winners.

I saw on Melissa Goodsell's blog that she made some fabric bookmarks. She said they were cheap, quick and easy, so maybe that's an idea for you.

  16. I love that you are spreading the handmade present goodness with your party prizes. Might inspire some parents of your party guests to do the same. Well done that's awesome!

  17. These hair accessories are a gorgeous idea! I love a handmade party that isn't OTT. I had a mostly handmade party for my daughters 3rd birthday and made really easy little ballerina skirts as gifts for the little girls. Also my homemade biscuits in cute packaging was a hit. I absolutely LOVE your invitations too.

  19. Great hairclips - a good idea to hand make some little 'prizes' - what could you do if little boys come to the party? I must admit to giving sweets as prizes at kids parties - it's the one time my kids get to indulge without me saying "not too many sweets!" I agree with an earlier comment that there are plenty of occasions other than birthday parties for kids to learn that they don't always 'win'!
