Felt Ball Garland

I find it's often nice when you're got a big project on the go, like the crochet blanket I'm working on, to have fun doing a simple craft with more immediate results.  I have admired many felt garlands and really wanted to try some felting for myself.  So after dropping off the girls at school I headed to the craft shop to buy myself some wool roving to make my felt balls.
I followed this tutorial and after a short time I had myself ten felted balls ready to make myself a little garland.  Once they were dry I used some natural twine and threaded on the balls creating a little loop at each end for hanging.  I'm not sure if I will keep it small or make some more but I sure did have fun making it and looking at it hanging in my office.
To see what other's have been creating stop by here for a little look.

  2. I have never done any felting but am going to give it a go after seeing your felt balls- I have been wanting to make a felt ball garland for ages and this would be so fun to do with my 5 year old, thanks for the inspiration!

  3. Gorgeous!! I too have been wanting to give this a try for ages! How easy would it be for little kids (ie. 3&4)? Or this something to save to do with my 8 year old? Is the roving expensive?

  4. They are lovely, great idea for a garland! I have only tried felting larger balls with kids a few times and it seemed to take forever and i lost patience...perhaps smaller balls would be a better idea lol! have a lovely weekend Catherine x

  6. Love it and really like the twine string look. I have a photo of a pink and white one I have saved in my inspiration folder for Sophie's room. Haven't yet decided if I'll go with the felt balls or whether to make another fabric bunting string. I know what you mean about needing small easy to accomplish projects when you're focusing on a big crafting task - it's good to have that balance.

    Enjoy your weekend xx

  7. Oh, I know the feeling! There's something about an immediate result vs a long term project - I do that often!

  10. Very cute. I've heard of people thrifting old wool jumpers to get felt too. Would that work for these balls?
